A winery on a hill with its tasting room lit up for the holiday weekends is about as good as it gets in El Dorado County wine country, and that’s a big part of the Somerset Christmas light installation calls we take. The other part is ranch houses on big parcels where the owner has no interest in hauling a ladder across a gravel drive in the cold. We handle both. We come up from Plymouth through the Shenandoah Valley and over into the Fair Play side, so this is familiar ground. Call (209) 444-1844 and tell us which roads you’re off.
Tasting rooms and wineries
If you pour wine out here, you know December weekends matter. People are driving Mount Aukum Road looking for somewhere to stop, and a lit building shows up from a long way off on a dark country road.
We usually outline the tasting room roofline, wrap the porch posts or entry columns, hang lit garland on the railings where people stand with a glass, and put a wreath or two where folks walk in. A couple of wrapped oaks near the parking area help guests find their way back to the car after dark. Everything runs on timers set to your hours, and we keep cords out of walkways where someone could trip.
For businesses with more going on, our commercial lighting page explains how we plan bigger properties.
Somerset Christmas light installation on acreage
A lot of the land around Somerset is in big rural parcels, and the main roads are paved while plenty of side roads are dirt or rock. That shapes the job.
Fair Play. Vineyards, farms, and ranches all mixed together. Homes here tend to sit well back from the road, so a lit roofline and a wreath on the gate do most of the talking.
Mount Aukum. Along Mount Aukum Road, lots are big and the drives are long. Stake lights along the last stretch of driveway, near the house, give you a lit path home without running cord out to the county road.
Outingdale. Down by the Cosumnes south of town, the homes sit in the trees along the river. We’ll ask which oaks you see from the house and start there.
Bucks Bar Road and Grizzly Flat Road. These meet at the Somerset crossroads, and the homes off them run up toward Grizzly Flats, into higher, piney country. More trees, more shade, more cold.
Omo Ranch Road. Heading east toward Omo Ranch, the elevation climbs and it gets colder, so timers go under cover and connections stay off the ground.
What we’ll put up
- Roofline lights fastened with clips, not nails or staples. Composition shingle and metal roofs each get the right clip for the job.
- Tree wraps on oak trunks and branches. With a towering pine, we stick to the trunk and whatever branches a ladder can safely reach.
- Pillar and column wraps on covered porches, carport posts, and tasting room entries.
- Stake lighting for walkways, driveways, and lawn edges. On gravel and rocky ground we seat them deep so they don’t lean.
- Lit wreaths for doors, gates, and barn fronts.
- Lit garland for rails, banisters, and archways.
We bring every light, and we do all the climbing. You’re not buying strands or testing them on the porch the night before.
Power out in the country
On a big rural property, the outlet is almost always the limiting factor. Tell us what you have, and we’ll figure out what it can run safely, and design around that instead of stringing cords across the pasture. Better to light the house and the yard near it really well than to spread things thin.
Repairs and the January takedown
Winter storms roll through the foothills every year. If wind or snow knocks a section out, call (209) 444-1844 and we’ll come up and fix it. Takedown is a January job. Our crew unhooks every clip and strand, the roof is clean well before the spring rains, and the lights leave with us instead of piling up in your shop.
We make the same drive for customers in Fiddletown and around Plymouth, and we’re up toward Placerville often too, so Somerset is well within our loop.
